Peter Finnegan Superstar

There was a nice piece about Peter in the paper on Friday. Alongside his picture, the article focussed on Peter's meteoric rise to fame from backstage to superstar in one year. His singing teacher said how proud she was of him and (I think) David W said how impressive he was in rehearsals.

And so say all of us...

More mics but no books

More microphones at rehearsal last night...brought back scary memories of my last run-in with them! But I soon got over it. Just a full sing-through from start to finish, with no books. Everyone actually did really well. I think the chorus surprised themselves with how much they actually knew. Overall it sounded really good, especailly as there were a lot of poeple missing.

Principal numbers went OK...I think both me and Pete were a bit rusty after having a week off, so there were one or two slip ups here and there, but generally I think we did alright. Act 2 was, as usual, the best for me. I think it shows how much I need to warm up that I only really feel happy with my voice once I get to the second half.

I did "Judas' Death" a bit different this time...much more like on the CD - down an octave and starting quiet. I think it works better that way - much more dramatic...building up in intensity to the "slime and the mud". Must remember to do this every time.

A special mention must go to the Apostles. It was great when we got to "The Last Supper"...they all stood up to do their bit and it sounded fantastic - very male-voice choir! Then at the last repeat, their drunken version was hilarious...how me and Pete are going to maintain our angry faces through this I don't know!

Had the fun of trying to sort out all our ticket order before I left last night. What a nightmare! we have about £320 worth of tickets to buy for friends and family. Some have sent cheques, some haven't. Realised some could have family tickets to make it cheaper....really pushed our mathematical skills to the limit! Anyway, we figured it all out and brought the form and moeny to rehearsal, only to find that Susan wasn't there to take it...ho hum. Will have to post it after all.

So now we have 2 weeks off. I think I'm going to have to make a real effort now to practice regularly. I can't go 3 weeks without singing this stuff as it takes me ages to get my voice back into shape. I'll try really hard to stick to a routine!

Fixed Home page link

Oh and by the way, I discovered last week that the link back to the Home page from a post page wasn't working properly. This meant some of you to got a "Page not found" error when you tried to get back to the index. Anyway, I've fixed it now, so you can navigate back and forth to your heart's content, without any erors (hopefully).

So long Scotland!

Good news...I no longer have to travel up to Glasgow every week. I'm so relieved. I don't actually know what I'm going to be doing from next week, but I'm not planning on having to travel very far. Although Glasgow is a nice enough place, I certainly won't miss having to get up at 4.30 in the morning to drive to the Airport.
It would be just my luck to get sent even further afield next tho....let's wait and see.

Looking forward to rehearsal tonight...it seems ages since I sang. I wonder how things went last week...
And then we have 2 weeks off! Nightmare!

Night off...

Chorus only at rehearsal last night, so I had a night off.

Should be able to get hold of some pictures from the carnival at the weekend, so I'll upload some here when I can.

A day to remember

What a fantastic afternoon we had at the Cleethorpes Carnival.

I arrived about 3.30 to hear "Superstar" being blasted out across Sidney Park - it certainly helped me find our lorry! We milled around a bit and had some photos taken till 4.15, when we got into position on the float. What a great job everyone had done in getting it ready. I wish I knew everyone's names who had been involved, but I guess they all know who they are. Anyway, they had done an amazing job...we had a temple with columns, a cross, a market, palm leaves, loaves of bread. And Kev had set up his PA equipment and was merrily blasting out selections from the soundtrack. I'm sure we were the loudest float there.

It had been raining in the morning, but the sun was just starting to come out, thank goodness. At 4.30 we started rolling out of the park. We started singing and dancing and never stopped till we got to Haverstoe Park 2 hours later. We went through "What's The Buzz?", "Hosanna", "Simon Zealotes", "The Temple", "I Don't Know How To Love Him" and "Superstar". With Peter, James & I taking turns with the microphone and everyone else singing along, we made a hell of a sound. I think at first people thought we may have been some crazy church society - "bible bashers" spreading the good word - but once we got onto "Superstar" I think it dawned on people what we were about.

The sun came out and I started to regret wearing jeans...I ran out of water half way round the course, and with the heat I soon found my voice drying up. But I kept soldiering on, "the show must go on" and all that! My rendition of "Superstar" got more and more funky each time - if we can replicate the carnival atmosphere when we do it on stage, I think it could be a real success.

Best moment for me was turning the corner into Cromwell Road and seing Lisa and the kids standing there with Mum and Dad. I'd just finished one rendition of "Superstar" and had handed the mic back to Pete, but then it came on again, so I grabbed the mic back, leaned over the side of the float and gave it all I had for my fan club! I could see Lisa was so excited - my very own groupie! It was such a big moment for me - you know how much all this means to me, but being up there with all the crowds, singing to my family was just a magical experience.

We eventaully arrived at Haverstoe Park, where the carnival ended. We stayed on the float for one more dance to "Superstar", then started stripping the float down. Kev was having a party back at his place, which would have been good I'm sure, but I knew Lisa and the kids would want to see me and take me home to tell me about their day, so I had to give it a miss.

I think everyone agreed it had been a fantastic afternoon and a great advert for the show and the society. It's just a shame that tickets aren't on sale yet, as I think we would have sold a lot off the back of our performance. With another month to go before they go on sale, I just hope people remember about us.

Good job there's no rehearsal this week coz I think I'll still be recovering!
